So um, what is this show about? The J. Pitts Show is a labor of love (pause) created by J. Pitts and DJ Nice Rec. Two college friends and current co-workers, the idea for the show all started when Justin began to go through withdrawal at not having a radio show. At work, he had been listening to podcasts on his iPOD. With no means to actually record such a show at his own apartment, he went to the only other person he knew, Nice Rec. Nice Rec, who wasn't too sure what a podcast actually was, was interested in the project and the two worked from there. Ever since then, the pair have spent every Saturday drinking their favorite Pabst Blue Ribbon pounders and recording episodes of the J. Pitts Show for the world to hear. Now, a little background about our hosts:J. Pitts (first name Justin for all you trivia buffs out there) a WPTS-FM alum where he hosted a show called Good Guys Radio for the better part of three years. Known for mysteriously acquiring all new hip hop releases as soon as they come out, Justin has a profound love for the culture, although he has become jaded in recent years. Nice Rec (birth name Pete Mudge for all you trivia buffs out there) is a veteran of the Pittsburgh Hip Hop scene, having rocked parties all over the city and having hosted steady nights at such fine establishments as Bikki, Club Havana and Spice Cafe. One of the better DJ's in Pittsburgh, he is part of a dying breed who refuse to trade in their vinyl for Final Scratch or Serato. He also prides himself in being able to mix, a trait that many DJ's do not know how to do. As for the name of the show Justin says: "Man, it's not because I'm a vain person or anything. First off, I didn't think Nice Rec was actually going to contribute to the show, but even more than that I originally wanted to call the show The New Deal, I bought the domain name and everything. However, a good friend of mine was like, "that name is cool and all, but it's kind of long." So I was like, fuck it I'll change it. Furthermore, I didn't know how much I wanted to feature hip hop, I didn't want to be limited. I had more grandiose plans for the show when I first started, I wanted to have people on here and talk politics, I wanted to have porn stars having orgasms, I just wanted to do... more, and I may still do more, but more right now I'm too lazy and just playing hip hop is just fine with me.
